Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Benefits, Eligibility and How to Apply?

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a scheme the government of India runs to help citizens build affordable houses in the country’s rural and urban areas. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

The Indian government launched its significant housing initiative, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, in June 2015. PMAY is focused on offering low-cost pucca houses with minimum amenities to all qualified urban & rural families by 2022. Beneficiaries are provided monetary support via credit-linked subsidies under PMAY to lower the burden of home loans.

PMAY operates in two verticals: the urban one (PMAY-U), governed by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, and the rural one (PMAY-G), governed by the Ministry of Rural Development. As of 2021, two million houses have been approved and built, significantly driving affordable housing in India.

PM Awas Yojana Eligibility Criteria

To get the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana benefits, people need to register through the official website of the department. But to receive the benefit, they must be eligible by following the eligibility criteria of the Department of Authorities.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Registration Process

People need to register for urban and rural areas, the registration steps of which are also below:

PMAY for Urban Residents –

• Individuals need to qualify for the eligibility criteria given by the department.
• Visit the official website https://pmay-urban.gov.in/ of the scheme on your device.
• Select the “Citizen Assessment” option & click on it.
• Select the class EWS, LIG, MIG-I, or MIG-II, then click the submit button.
• Now, enter the OTP sent on the Aadhar-linked mobile number to proceed with the application process.
• Individuals must Complete the application form with the necessary details, attach all the documents for verification, and enter the captcha code.
• Click the submit button, and print out the confirmation page after the final submission.

PMAY for Rural Residents –

• People living in rural areas need to confirm their eligibility by using the details given by the department.
• Individuals must Visit the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana website – rural.gov.in.
• Under the Awassoft option, you will see Data Entry. Click on it to redirect to a new page.
• You will see the MIS-Data Entry; click on it and notice two options: existing server and central server. Click on the second option.
• Now, open the financial year 2025-26 and log in to your dashboard using your username & password.
• Access the application form and start filling it with the necessary details.
• Attach documents, preview your form, and submit it to the department.

How to Check PM Awas Yojana Application Status

Individuals from urban or rural areas who have submitted the PMAY application form can check their application status using the details below:

• Individuals must navigate the status-checking page on the PMAY-U and PMAY-R websites.
• On the page, you will see options like By Name, Father’s Name & Mobile Number, and By Assesment ID; select any of your preferences.
• People must enter the required credentials & submit the details carefully. Their application’s status will now be displayed on the screen.
• People of rural areas must follow the Stakeholders> IAY/PMAYG Beneificary path by scrolling through the menu bar.
• Enter your registration number & captcha code, then press the submit button.
• Your application status is on the screen, so check it carefully.
